Townsville Flexible Learning Centre
History and Philosophy
The Edmund Rice Education Australia Townsville Flexible Learning Centre was established in 2006 to provide appropriate responses to the complex needs of young people in the Townsville region who have found themselves outside the mainstream educational system. The Centre operates through a common ground framework based on the four principles of respect, honesty, participation and safe and legal. The staff of the Centre build honest and authentic relationships with young people and their families or carers, supporting and celebrating the uniqueness and dignity of each individual.
Services
The Centre provides transport and meal services to support young people to attend.
Learning
The Centre offers a suite of accredited and non-accredited learning options informed by the Australian Curriculum and assessed against the Australian Core Skills Framework. Our curriculum is characterised by a project based learning approach and informed by consultation with young people.
The Centre has multiple modes of engagement including Junior, Middle and Senior Programs, an Outreach Program and a Bridge Burragah Program. The Outreach and Bridge Burragah Programs offer additional support to young people to young people who may not be ready to attend the main Centre.
